Did you ever notice that when it comes down to mobile workstations and professional PC's desings always tend to be odd and conservative? If you want a nice looking system you either have to buy an Apple (which in would not consider a professional system in terms of CAD) or go for a consumer solution with much less power than a mobil workstation.
With it's new Studio XPS line Dell gets a littel closer to what we designers are all dreaming of: a nice looking and fast running solution for day to day work!
Manly made for entertainment the Studio XPS 13 and 16-zoll-display systems have some stunning features like a LED full HD display (1920 x 1080), blue ray device and 512mb grafik card. But taking a second look will over some cons like a only glossy glas screen and the not OpenGL optimized ATI Radeon 3600 series. An upgrade to the new ATI 4600 series is anticipated for the near future, making things better but still not perfect.
To put it all in a nutshell: With the Studio XPS series Dell puts out a nice system not really suitable for daily CAD or grafik work and we can only hope that this will even the way to a nice, not odd and boring looking workstation in the future.
